Support Women Artists at the High’s Museum Shop
Check out some of Nicole Perpignand’s favorite Museum Shop items by and about women artists.

This Women’s History Month, we encourage you to not only learn more about the empowering women around you but to see how their work has affected others. There is a plethora of women that have had a tremendous impact on the arts; so, how can you best celebrate them at the High? Beyond seeing works on view by notable artists like Ebony G. Patterson, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Mary Proctor and learning about their history in the field, check out some favorite items from the Museum Shop that feature iconic women and their work.
Books about Georgia O’Keeffe, Berthe Morisot, Mickalene Thomas, and Sally Mann are available in the Museum Shop for those who love to read. We also have Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe, a High Museum of Art exhibition publication that The New York Times listed as one of the best art books of 2021.
Children’s books are also available, including the Little Feminist book set written by Emily Kleinman and illustrated by Lydia Ortiz! This set features female pioneers, artists, leaders, and activists who have changed our world with their work. Some women included are Frida Kahlo, Cleopatra, Rosa Parks, and Sally Ride. Another notable book? 13 Women Artists Children Should Know by Bettina Schümann!
Who doesn’t love decorative stationery items? We’ve got even more options in store. One of our popular items is the Women in Art postcard set. This set features portraits of fifty women artists throughout history as illustrated by Rachel Ignotofsky. Artists include painter Georgia O’Keeffe, ceramicist Nampeyo, and quilter Harriet Powers, among others.
Jewelry lovers, we’ve got you covered too. WorldFinds is a women-led organization that works to empower women artisans through fair trade. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted by women artisans in India who combine repurposed Kantha textiles with metallic details. Every WorldFinds piece is a unique work of art that brings positive change to these artisans’ lives!
Game nights are never complete without a good card game, and highlighting notable women among friends is a fun way to learn more about the significant contributions these women have made in their respective fields. In the Shop, we have Frances Ambler’s Fantastic Women card game, with beautiful illustrations by Chilean artist Daniela Henríquez. This game highlights some of the bravest women out there, including Malala Yousafzai, Marie Curie, Amelia Earhart, and more. Ingenious Women, a matching card game by Laura Bee and Anita Ganeri, is a game that tests your memory as you match the twenty-five featured women inventors with their brilliant inventions, like Gladys West and the GPS!
Of course, I couldn’t forget to mention the cutest figurines. Magnetic Personalities is a line of plush finger puppets with a magnetic component; they’re perfect for anyone looking to add a little extra personality to their fridge, locker, or any metal surface! At the Shop, we have put together a collection of Magnetic Personalities focused on great women in history. We also have Goose Grease’s “The Women Artists” collection of wooden dolls, which features artistic representations of Yayoi Kusama, Frida Kahlo, Ruth Asawa, and Louise Bourgeois. Each handmade wooden doll is unique and safe for little hands.
If you need a fun gift, the Museum Shop is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 noon through 5 p.m. You can find the Museum Shop in the Taylor Lobby of the Wieland Pavilion. Museum admission is not required to shop. The parking deck on Arts Center Way offers free thirty-minute parking for your visit.
